Language Policy in Africa (LPIA) is a journal supporting the idea that African languages are key to Africa's development, also in the context of decolonisation. LPIA seeks original and sound articles that may help to shape practical, efficient, rational, and inclusive African language-based policies on the whole continent.

LPIA is open-access, double-blind peer-reviewed. There are no Article Processing Charges. It is published twice a year under the auspices of the Edinburgh Circle on the Promotion of African Languages (ECPAL), Initiative Afrique  of the University of Bern.

New season of webinars starts 2 October 2026

A new season of the webinar series "Conversations on Language Policy in Africa" ​​is about to begin! The first webinar, scheduled for October 2 at 4:00 PM (CEST), will take the form of a roundtable discussion on the topic: "Language Policy and Planning in Africa: What Role for Terminology?" Please note that this webinar will be conducted in French.

The next session will take place on November 6 at 4:00 PM (CET) and will be led by Gladys Nyarko Ansah and Nana Ama Agyeman; it will focus on language policies in education in Ghana and the identification of gaps.
