TSANTSA is the peer-reviewed, open-access journal of the Swiss Anthropological Association, dedicated to current issues and debates in anthropology. It was established in 1996. The online edition is published by Bern Open Publishing, the print issue is published by Seismo Press.
TSANTSA publishes ethnographically and theoretically grounded contributions on current issues and debates in social anthropology. It is dedicated to the development and critical discussion of novel theorisations of anthropological concepts. As a tri-lingual journal with articles in English, French, and German, it seeks to strengthen the dialogue between different theoretical strands and scholarly traditions. Its wide thematic scope encourages conversations across the discipline and between the various subfields of anthropology. TSANTSA publishes original research articles, contributions in audio-visual anthropology, shorter essays about on-going research, as well as book and film reviews.
Research Articles contribute to contemporary debates in social and cultural anthropology. TSANTSA especially welcomes contributions exploring novel ways of theorising anthropological concepts as well as articles dealing with overlooked topics that are firmly rooted in ethnographic data.
The journal’s Special Issue Section offers guest editors an opportunity to unravel anthropological topics and tropes from various perspectives in a series of articles, each contributing to the in-depth discussion of a unifying theme. The Special Issue section explores themes of relevance and sheds light on the current state of research in various subfields of the discipline.
Contributions in the Current Research Section present and discuss preliminary findings of recent and ongoing research projects. With this format, TSANTSA especially encourages early career scholars to present first research results to a broader scientific readership.
The section Contributions in Audio-Visual Anthropology publishes audio and visual interventions in socio-cultural anthropology. The contributions in film, photography, and sound critically examine and creatively evoke social and political lifeworlds. They use media to produce theory or think through and with images and sound, and are accompanied by written texts.
TSANTSA journal content is freely available to download, save, reproduce, and transmit for non-commercial, scholarly, and educational purposes. Reproduction and transmission of journal content for the above purposes should credit the author and original source, in accordance with the BOAI definition of open access. TSANTSA content is licensed under a CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 license.

TSANTSA does not charge any article processing charges (APCs) or article submission charges (ASCs) and does allow the author(s) to hold the copyright without restrictions.
The articles published in our journal go through a double-blind peer-review process.
