Abstract

Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz entered a global literary field within which she flourished. In fact, she was the first American intellectual and writer who was fully aware of the processes of production, exportation and reception of her work on a global scale. Therefore, the aim of this article is to present the subject of Sor Juana’s cosmopolitanism by means of three aspects: a) the prefiguration of the concept of Weltliteratur within Sor Juana’s poetics; b) the strategy deployed in epigraphs and covers to internationalize the poet; and c) the material dimension of literary processes of selection and circulation, namely, her correspondence with other authors, her phenomenal sales statistics and her contact with groups of readers outside her region.
