Abstract

This paper describes the characteristics that we observe in the Romances written by Beatriz de Aguilar and published in 1610 by Francisco de Cea in Córdoba as chapbooks. These poems are linked to the spirituality of female mysticism of that century. The loss of all the work of Beatriz de Aguilar, except these popular romances, reveals the little success that the Jesuits of Granada had in their efforts to give a mystical figure belonging to their school the recognition she deserved.
