Abstract

In his rewriting of the Poema de Mio Cid’s first cantar, published in the collective work ¡Mio Cid! (2007), Antonio Orejudo moves the first months of the Cid’s exile to a futuristic world full of aliens. The change of chronotope and the parody invite the reader to adopt a new perspective on the discursive mechanisms that construct the Cid’s heroic figure in the medieval poem, particularly regarding his warlike abilities. In addition to studying these mechanisms, this paper analyses how this exercise has implications for the way contemporary audience relate to the glorification of violence from their own sociocultural coordinates.
