Football and society in «La vida que pensamos: Cuentos de fútbol» by Eduardo Sacheri

Abstract

This paper aims to approach Eduardo Sacheri's brief narrative on football, through the thematic analysis of his book La vida que pensamos: Cuentos de fútbol. Two thematic areas have been taken into consideration: the description of football as the creation of social networks and the creation of an image of society. After some general considerations about the literature on football, the article focuses on the poetry of football as a means to talk about the problems of ordinary people: friendship, loyalty, the defense of the weak. The paper also focuses on the sometimes ironic, sometimes enthusiastic gaze on professional players, the passion for teams and the theme of treason. We finish with an analysis of the role played by women in this kind of literature.
