nalysis and Actualization of a Hybrid Variety Resulting from the Linguistic Contact between Portuguese and Spanish

In the present article, we will attempt to describe the current state of the barranquenho, a hybrid variety resulting from the linguistic contact between two languages: Portuguese and Spanish. This dialect has been little studied throughout the years, from the first essay of the linguist José Leite de Vasconcelos in the first half of the 20th century, to the studies of María Victoria Navas Sánchez-Élez in the 90s. The lack of studies and their relative remoteness in time justify an actualization of this variety. In this article, we will analyze the current linguistic components of the barranquenho and the attitude of its speakers towards not only their own dialect but also towards the languages they are in contact with: Portuguese and Spanish.
