The present article is based on the finds from the Ceramic Deposit of Well “k–4” excavated at the North-Eastern Sector of Chersonesos. In 1989, during excavation of block III, a well packed with pottery debris was found under the floor in the northwestern part of room “α”.
The fill of the well consisted of 5 different layers. Layer 1 contained materials of the first half of the 4th cent. AD. During that period the well was covered and used as a household pit. Layer 2, devoid of any cultural materials, was constituted by marl with fragments of carboniferous limestone. Various groups of finds point out that the complex of the 3rd Layer was formed in the last quarter of the 4th – first half of the 3rd cent. BC. Layer 4 consisted of yellow marl with fragments of carboniferous limestone and two fragments of Attic black-glazed vessels dated to the turn of the 4th/3rd – first quarter of the 3rd cent. BC. Analysis of the ceramic complex of the 5th Layer showed that its fill goes back to the second and third quarters of the 4th cent. BC.
On the basis of the presented studies of the Ceramic Deposit the author dates the building of the Well “k–4” to the second quarter of the 4th cent. BC. In the late 4th – early 3rd cent. BC the well was covered during reconstruction of the North-Eastern Sector; afterwards it was used as a household pit until the 4th cent. AD.
