Religion und Religiosität an der intimen Grenze einer Beziehung: Eine Spurensuche im Briefwechsel Sigmund Freuds und Oskar Pfisters
Abstract
A textological reading examines the significance and function of religion in the correspondence between Sigmund Freud and the Zurich pastor Oskar Pfister. Although the two men take opposing positions on the validity of religion, they are equally interested in the psychoanalytical explanation of religious phenomena. Their letters show how they regulate closeness and distance at the intimate edge of their developing relationship. Freud's attitude towards religion can thus be analysed in a more differentiated way. Such scientific-historical studies make it possible to tap into the possibilities for the future that are laid out in history.
