This paper analyses the entries of two monolingual Bamanan (Bambara) dictionaries. The processing in question targets entries that have followed the homonymic treatment and the unitary treatment approach in the said dictionaries. The question of the treatment of polysemic entries always raises the issue of the optimal choice of treatment to apply to each polyseme. The lexicographer wonders whether the respective entry should be duplicated each time it occurs with a different meaning (homonymic treatment) or whether the grouping of all the meanings of the entry should be tolerated (unitary treatment). The question is how do practitioners of Bamanan dictionaries behave in the face of these ambiguities? What are the objective criteria applied by the latter in their respective works and how do these criteria relate to those defined in the current theories? The aim of the work is therefore to follow some polysemic entries to analyse the criteria that prevailed in the ungrouping or grouping of the meanings of entries for any useful purpose in the era of the trigger for the design of monolingual dictionaries in African languages. As a methodological framework, the work proposes to look for some homonymic entries in the Bamanankan daɲɛgafe dictionaries (Kone 2010 and Dukure 2021) in order to carry out the analyses. Finally, the paper will based on a literary review of previous works on lexicography in general and on Bamanan dictionaries in particular.
