This study explores the relevance of language awareness and language learning awareness in the context of foreign language education. The first part of the paper focuses on the aims and objectives of foreign language teaching and introduces the concepts of language awareness and language learning awareness. In this context, particular attention is given to the role of conscious reflection on language structures, language use, and individual learning processes in promoting successful language acquisition. The second part of the paper discusses different forms of reflection that can contribute to the development of language awareness and language learning awareness. The paper highlights how reflective practices can support learners in developing a deeper understanding of language as well as greater autonomy and responsibility in their own learning process. The paper argues that fostering language awareness and language learning awareness represents an important component of contemporary foreign language teaching and can contribute significantly to learners’ linguistic and metacognitive development.
