The article presents the ways and forms of collaboration within the Accademia dei facchini della Valle di Blenio and the Rabisch dra Academiglia dor compà Zavargna... (‘Arabeschi dell’Accademia del Compare Zavargna...’, Milan, Gottardo Ponzio, 1589). Although there are more than one hundred members in the facchinesque sodality, only fifteen of them actively participate in the drafting of the multilingual, anti-Classicist and anti-Tuscan sylloge. Giovanni Paolo Lomazzo is the creator and the main poetic voice. His other associates occupy a rather marginal role, which can be traced back to their recent induction into the academy and is aimed at endorsing the linguistic criticism expressed in the collection.
Keywords: Giovanni Paolo Lomazzo, Rabisch, Academies, dialect and literature, 16th century.
