Los Reyes Católicos en la retórica persuasiva falangista (1933-1945)
Abstract
We will study here the use of the figures of the Catholic Monarchs as symbols in the political language of the Spanish Falange, the movement in which Mussolini influenced, and that emerged in Spain in the 1930s. It is analyzed how these historical figures, who, in principle, should represent all Spaniards equally, were used as a persuasive strategy to generate around them a unity of thought, a group conscience by which to differentiate themselves from others, that were excluded from what being Spanish and patriotic meant, per this interpretation. The study also deals with female models, especially through Queen Isabella I of Castile, who was presented as an example of what the Spanish woman should be.
