Abstract

It is well known that the Diccionari català-valencià-balear (DCVB) takes into account the ancient, modern, oral and literary language in its definitions and examples. Its microstructure also includes three sections (phonetics, derivation –with the label “Intens[ius]” ‘intensives’– and etymology) which appear in a large part of its 150,964 entries. This configuration gives it a completeness and a singularity that moves it away from conventional dictionaries. This work focuses on the derivatives that appear in the DCVB. These derivatives might be expected to have their own separate entries (e.g. “afeinassat” ‘busy’), but the most usual thing is that they are included in the "Intens [ius]" section of each entry. This study aims, on the one hand, to justify methodologically the appearance of this section in the DCVB; and on the other, to study the types of suffixes that are added at the ends of the words to make the derivatives, which appear in almost 4,000 entries.
