Abstract

The idea that any type of discourse forms a continuum from the point of view of its segmentation will be illustrated with Zapatero’s 2011 State of the Nation opening speech. The network, both at the sequential and the enunciative level, which our model proposes, allows their integration. Thus, in sequences, superior units (opening, development and closing units) will integrate others which belong to the sequential level, the substrings (themes, sub-themes and topics). In addition, all of them will be divided into processing units, belonging to the enunciative level, whose main unit is the statement with its acts and sub-acts. Our consideration of the theme, with a meaning different from the traditional one, which would be our topic, is important for the typology as a whole. We will try to show, therefore, the above-mentioned network formed by these units and their recursiveness.
