Abstract

The traditions and typical products of Emilia-Romagna are promoted through the Museums of Taste and Wine Routes, which create a network linking the region and its culture, local knowledge and tourism promotion. The Museums of Taste and Wine Routes aim not only to bear witness to the history of the region and its specialities, but also to raise awareness of raw materials and production processes. The multilingual glossary project Sapori locali (‘Local Tastes’) fits into this framework of traditions and products, offering a multilingual terminology resource on products with P. D. O., P. G. I., D. O. C., D. O. C. G., I. G. T. and P. A. T. in Italian, French, English, Spanish and Romanian, with German currently in development. The Sapori locali glossary is an online resource that can be expanded in the future and it is easy to use. It allows for the establishment of denominative equivalences to provide a kind of terminological standardisation of “typical products” that could prove useful for communication at various levels: between experts and companies, as well as for curious users or tourists passionate about food and wine who can access knowledge about typical products from Emilia-Romagna. Finally, this multilingual terminology resource aims to promote the dissemination of food traditions from Emilia and Romagna at an international level.
