By means of a sample of the words linked to social relations in the family environment present in the Diccionario Nacional o Gran diccionario clásico de la lengua española (1846-48) by R. J. Domínguez and its lexicographic treatment, we analyze the ideology and subjectivity about this sphere of the lexicon in relation to the social restrictions of the time on gender roles and their reflection in the lexicographic practices of Spanish dictionaries in the second half of the nineteenth century.
