This article analyzes the poetic and linguistic work of Pau Estorch i Siqués (Olot 1805 – Barcelona 1870) from the point of view of linguistic ideology. Specifically, it analyzes how in Estorch’s works are present both traditional ideologies of the ancien régime and heirs of the traditionalism of the Modern Age and ideologies that bring Estorch closer to the ideological postulates of the Renaixença movement. The most outstanding fact of his poetic and linguistic work is the rhetorical maneuver that hides a legitimization of the Castilian language in Catalonia as a language suitable for some high linguistic uses.
