What does conducting ethnographic research on/in digital contexts in the field of language studies entail? What variety of forms, commitments and objectives does this research take? What challenges, difficulties and potentialities does it face? What place does critical work have in this research?
This monographic issue, entitled ‘Estudios lingüístico-etnográficos del español en contextos digitales’, brings together a collection of research and theoretical-methodological debates by authors from South America and Europe. These works, adopting a commitment to ethnographic work that goes beyond mere technique or pragmatism, are oriented towards ethnography as a research programme in conjunction with various sociocultural approaches to language.
The monograph has a dual purpose. On the one hand, the volume offers a collective space for discussion around ethnographic-digital research in linguistic studies of/on Spanish. This type of space is particularly relevant for the socialisation and discussion of the ethnographic agenda within the broader linguistic community. On the other hand, the monograph also synthesises prior knowledge in order to advance this field of research.
